Although it is convenient to use computer images with students, you may have limited access and want to seek out other photo sources. Here is another way to collect some colorful images. First try securing discarded magazines from the school or local library. Old issues of Sports Illustrated and National Geographic contain scores of powerful images, but many other magazines will do.
Second, require students to locate three fascinating images (at least 4" by 6") from old magazines at home and bring them to class. If each student brings three pictures, even if some fail to bring any, you should end up with several hundred by the end of the day. These will provide you with enough images for both writing and posting.
As students write with magazine photos, you can display both their interpretations and the corresponding images on bulletin boards. Magazine images can also be laminated and used as a resource file. This will give you a collection to use at different times and in different ways when computer images aren't accessible.
